2019/20 UEFA Champions League

The 2018/19 edition started on 25 June and will end in Istanbul on 30 May 2020. Every detail related to UEFA is mentioned below.

Starting of UEFA

The action gets underway on 25 June right after 24 days after Liverpool were crowned as champions for the sixth time in Madrid with semi-finals of the opening round. There will be three qualifying rounds before the playoffs at the end of August to confirm the lineup for the group stage. That phase starts on 17 September and continues every two or three weeks till 11 December. The knockout stage will start on 18 February, with the season completion in Istanbul on 30 May.

How to Qualify?

26 out of 32 teams that will fight the 2019/20 group stage are confirmed now, Six play-off winners will join them in August. Six sides will come forward through these qualifying paths:

Champion’s route: This route is for domestic title holders, beginning with the four lowest-ranked nations in the preliminary round (they played as a knockout mini-tournament in Kosovo). Qualifiers are joined by the next 31 lowest-ranked teams in the first qualifying round, with the next four sides added at the following stage. The ten winners including another two new entrants then face off in the third qualifying round, with the victorious six then met by two more sides in four play-off ties. Preliminary rounds are excluded whereas all ties are literally played over two legs named as home and away.

League route: It constitutes of three rounds. Four teams begin in the next (second) qualifying round, along with the two winners joined by six more sides in the next stage. Four teams reach the play-offs, with two ties determining who goes through to the group stage. The ties in the league route are very well played over two legs that are termed as home and away.

Venue for Grand Finale

2020 final will be played at the Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadı, Istanbul. The match is scheduled for Saturday 30 May 2020, kick-off 21:00CET.
